How Many Weight Watchers Points Am I Allowed?

In its own clever way, the highly successful Weight Watchers program utilizes the basic "calories in, calories out" method of weight loss.

Calories are simplified by the weight watchers point system which assigns points to foods based on their calorie and nutritional content.

Quick Guide: Using the calculator

  • Enter information for all fields on the left then click the "Calculate Points" to see your results

What it does

  • Calculate how many weight watchers points you get per day until you reach your desired goal weight
  • Know how much to reduce your points as you reach specific weight categories

Weight Watchers Points Allowed Calculator

The following points calculator is a very useful tool to complement the comprehensive Weight Watchers program. How Does the Calculator Work? The Weight Watchers Points Allowed Calculator will:

  • Calculate how many weight watchers points you get per day to until you reach your desired goal weight. Just as the recommended daily calorie intake is different for men and woman, so too is the Weight Watchers points-range.
  • As you lose weight, in order to continue to lose weight, you must reduce your points (calorie intake) further. This tool will show you how much to reduce your points as you reach specific weight categories

Weight Watchers Tips

  • Daily points do not rollover. For example, if you are 5 points short of your allowed points on Monday, you cannot add have an extra 5 points on Tuesday to even them out
  • Nutritious healthy filling foods as part of your points such as lean meat, whole grains, fruit and vegetables will result in healthy long lasting weight loss
  • Activities are also assigned points and offset against food points. The resulting calorie deficit will lead to weight loss.
  • Drink plenty of water

Weight Watchers Points System has a focus on using your points on healthy filling foods, not daily allowable points to be used on sugar and fat. The points list for foods will reflect this.

In addition to the daily food points calculation, Weight Watchers allow 35 flexible points* each week that encourage you to indulge in the occasional treats without threatening your overall weight loss. This is a good way to learn control without deprivation.

*According to the Weight Watchers Momentum Program

Please note: This is not an official Weight Watchers tool, but an aid to compliment the Weight Watchers Program. This online calculator has been modeled on the old Weight Watchers Points Plan (which was a very a successful system). The current Weight Watchers program as of 2011 is called the Weight Watchers Points Plus Program. To maximize your chances of weight loss success, we strongly recommend you refer directly to the Weight Watchers Plan which also strongly values its support network and meetings as a component of the system. How To Make Healthy Baked Fish Sticks

Firm meaty cod fish holds it's shape perfectly during baking or air frying. To get a crisp golden flavorful crust I combined panko crumbs with a little Old Bay and spices to get a faux-fried coating without the need to deep fry. I'm a dipper, I love dipping my food in condiments, and was really happy with how this lemon caper sauce turned out – you can really taste the fresh chives and lemon, which is the perfect compliment to the fish.

Although there's nothing like catching your own fish, that's not always possible. So when purchasing seafood, I always look for sustainable options, whether it's fresh or frozen. The first time I heard the term "sustainable seafood" was a few years back in San Francisco at an Alaska Seafood cooking demonstration where I learned that unlike many of the world's other fish populations, Alaska's are managed for protection against overfishing ensuring a healthy, wild and sustainable harvest for our future generations. So when I see the Alaskan Seafood label, I know I'm making a sustainable choice. I also have the (free) Seafood Watch App on my phone which I LOVE and always refer to before purchasing fish. It's simple to follow – you simply type the name of the fish and it gives you a green, yellow or red dot, plus suggestions for good alternatives. It's also a great idea to talk to your fish monger!

Why Are Bathroom Vanities So Expensive

Why Are Bathroom Vanities So Expensive

The reasons why bathroom vanities are so expensive include the material, the size, and the design (style).

(Angelapro)

Most of the time, if we want our homes to seem great or complete, we focus totally on areas like the front room, bedroom, dining room and kitchen. We rarely see homeowners prioritize their bathrooms, but actually , it's one among the foremost important parts of homes. It's one among the most used areas of the house, so it should tend due importance also on other places also. One among the simplest furniture sets to use to form our bathrooms look good and at an equivalent time add more functionality is the modern bathroom vanity.

However, goodies go along with a price, and bathroom vanities lately are quite expensive. So why are bathroom vanities so expensive?

There's no way for you to compromise on the material quality of the vanity since there's a lot of moisture, like steam, in the bathroom. A  bathroom vanity usually consists of a basin, a countertop and a base cabinet that under the top.

Countertop is a costly part of a vanity set. Common materials include marble, granite, quartz, artificial stone. These counter tops are usually available to be bought by square feet. If you go to the market to buy only a few square feet, you would be shocked when you know the price.

The second vital component is the base cabinet. Some people may feel dreadful when just think of his bathroom without a cabinet for storing toiletries. Most base cabinets are made of MFC (Melamine Face Chipboard), or MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), or plywood, or solid wood.

It is never a sound idea to use any other inferior (usually very cheap) material for your base cabinet. If you do that, the moisture in the restroom will easily impair the wood boards, then damage your bathroom essentials inside. In addition, cheap installation costs may lead to a lot of hassle and expensive repair fees later.

The solid wood would be the best choice for long-term and durable use. It could be pricey, but it gives off a natural and high end look to your vanity set.

Beside the material, let's think about the design (style) and the size. These are great benefits of the bathroom vanity. The vanity can bring style to any sort of bathroom, since it can be customized in various designs. Modern, contemporary, transitional or vintage. You name it. It also comes in all kinds of sizes, small type (24"), medium type (48"), large type (90"). It is very flexible. Whatever your design preferences are, sure there's always an ideal one for you.

The top-notch materials, size, bespoke designs may cost a fortune, but they are definitely worth it.

18 Inch Wide Bathroom Storage Cabinet

18 Inch Wide Bathroom Storage Cabinet

You fantasize about a bathroom big enough for hot yoga after a steamy shower — a space that can be your personal refuge from the hurly-burly of your house (your life!).

Instead, you've got a bath cluttered with all your toiletries right out there in plain view for all your guests to judge, umm, see. It's like a metaphor for your life; so cramped, you dread trying to blow out your hair tomorrow.

You need space. Here's how to gain some in your packed bath (collected from the pros who do it for a living).

#1 Hang Shelves in Unusual Places

Being savvy about the type of shelf you choose (think picture ledge instead of bookshelf) and where you hang it (like in that dead wall space between your sink and mirror) can make all the difference in a teeny bathroom (now you've got a toothbrushing station — and more sink space!).

Above-the-door shelf filled with towels in bathroom

Or go big. And UP. A wide shelf above your bathroom door is instant storage for your vacation beach towels.

#2 Go Into the Walls for Even More Shelves

Feeling cramped often leads to daydreams of taking a mallet to those close-together walls, "Fixer Upper"-style. So do it, really. You'd be amazed how much storage space hides behind bathroom walls between studs that stand 16 inches apart.

Cabinet Behind a Picture | Surface Mount Medicine Cabinet

Knock out some drywall (just be sure to check for electrical and plumbing lines first!), then throw in some shelves between the studs.

Keep it open if you're storing towels or nice-looking bottles of lotion there, or add a door for a little more discretion.

Related: Tips and Ideas for Using the Space Between Wall Studs

#3 Add Storage to Your Pedestal Sink

Just because your pedestal sink came with the same amount of storage as your yoga pants doesn't mean there's no potential there.

You can buy (or build, if you've got the DIY bug) cabinets that wrap around the base and, literally, create storage out of thin air. There are lots of options, like Hammacher Schlemmer's fancy pedestal cabinet that's priced at $130 and comes with two shelves, tilt-out drawer, and even a magazine rack.

A cream-colored bathroom with a pedestal sink

Another DIY solution: Dress your pedestal with a skirt that hides whatever you stuff behind it. It can even be a no-needle, no-sew project. Just use heavy, double-sided tape to attach and hem it.

#4 Put Part of Your Toilet in the Wall (for Real!)

Unless you're raising sea creatures in your toilet tank (just kidding! Don't do that!), your large, porcelain cube is eating up valuable space.

Bathroom with white/green wallpaper and wall-hung toilet

Consider a wall-hung toilet (starting at $400). It's minimalist-chic, and frees up floor space because the whole thing sits closer to the wall.

Since the tank and plumbing hide behind the wall, be sure to leave an access panel to save yourself grief down the road.

Tip: A towel bar, or even some light shelving, can be mounted on the access panel for added storage where your toilet tank used to be.

#5 Get the Most Streamlined Faucet You Can

Itty-bitty bathrooms are perfect for simple, single-handle faucets that save space on your sink surround.

White bathroom sink with chrome single faucet

Sure, it's just a few square inches you'll save, but that's valuable bathroom real estate when you're in the middle of trying that new updo, brushing your teeth, and doing some self-maintenance.

#6 Hide Toiletries in Hanging Baskets

These hangables give even ugly bottles and brushes some style, as well as a home. Most baskets are light enough to mount to the wall using a 75-pound picture hook hammered into a stud (we love those studs!). Or, install an extra towel bar — or the infamous Ikea storage rails — and attach baskets and buckets via S-hooks.

Cream-colored bins filled with toiletries

#7 Get a Spacious Feeling With a Window

If your dark, dank bathroom has no window, and it's on an exterior wall, add one! It'll reboot your mornings like nothing else.

A vintage bathroom with a window in the shower

It's not the cheapest option (about $2,100 installed). But it's sooooo worth it to get those sunny rays.

Because your bathroom will just feel bigger. And it'll let fresh air in, which puts the brakes on mold and mildew. Pick a vinyl window, which won't rot like wood will (plus vinyl is usually cheaper).

#8 Mount a Second Shower Rod (or Double Rod)

If your shower surround is minimalist in all the wrong ways, you know the misery of stashing bottles and razors and soap in tiny, wet, slippery corners.

Toiletries hanging from a second shower rod

But no law says a shower can only have one rod. If you hang a second tension rod inside the shower and add some S-hooks, you can turn your shower into a hanging storage jungle with buckets and caddies.

Tip: You can also buy a double shower rod to do the same thing — or, put the shower curtain on the inside rod and use the outside one to hang towels.

#9 Hack Some Suction Cup Hooks

For something super easy, super quick that'll give you some instant relief in your cramped bathroom, try suction hooks, which you can hack with elastic hair ties and mount to shower walls.

Shampoo, conditioner attached to suction cups in a shower

Slip razors, shampoo, conditioner through the ties, which will corral the usual shower mess.

The Importance of Pop-Up Drain Emitters

A pop-up drain emitter is part of a system that more efficiently carries water away from a house's foundation than a standard downspout.

Pop-Up Drain Emitters

Photo: wbtv.com

I've said many times that the most important decisions we made in the construction of our home were around the things you never see: the blown-in insulation, the PEX plumbing, the argon gas between the panes of our high-efficiency windows, and so on.

We thought about and planned for a lot of things like that during the pre-construction phase of our home-building adventure. And of course, there were things we missed. One of the most important: pop-up drain emitters.

Pop Up Drain System

Photo: ndspro.com

Drainage Basics

Most standard drainage systems have a downspout that catches water from the gutters on the roof and deposits it some small distance (around 1 – 3 feet) away from the house's foundation. With soil that drains well and proper grading, this can work okay. Which is what we thought would happen for us. But it didn't.

With each rainstorm we watched water quickly wash away the dirt and mulch in the planting beds in front of our house. The soil around our foundation even began to erode. I'm no home-building expert, but I knew right away this was not a good situation.

What Is a Pop-Up Drain Emitter?

So, what is a pop-up drain? It's a drain system that more efficiently carries water away from a house's foundation than a standard downspout does. (View example on Amazon.) A flexible hose is attached to the downspout, which is then run through a trench to a simple emitter that "pops up" once the water pressure builds enough, allowing it to disperse over a larger surface area, so it doesn't cause damage or erosion.

Do I Need a Pop-Up Drain Emitter?

We worked with the service department of our builder to have pop-up drains installed, and we've seen an immense difference. Our mulch is staying where it should, and our plants are beginning to recover. Most importantly, our foundation is staying protected.

Think about installing pop-up drains if:

  • Your soil doesn't drain well.
  • You have grading issues that impede the flow of water away from the house.
  • Your gutter design drains too much water into one area.

If there's any chance you might have drainage problems, invest in pop-up drains or if necessary, something more robust like French drains. It is worth the time, effort, and money. The foundation of your house is perhaps the most important thing you should never see. And with proper drainage, you won't.

Teak Bathroom Table

Teak Bathroom Table

teak_shower_seat

Teak wood furniture is an excellent choice to spruce up your indoor or outdoor shower area. A combination of a small shower bench or Asian style shower stool with a teak floor mat will give your bath space an elegant touch—like having a luxury spa in your own home.

Not only are these items attractive, but they are quite useful as well. Having a place to sit down in the shower can make many tasks easier—from scrubbing your toes to shampooing long hair. When you buy a great teak shower bench, it really does add a lot to the look and feel of your bathroom.

Teak is a superior wood for the bathroom because it is naturally water resistant, but some degree of cleaning and maintenance is still required to keep your shower furniture looking beautiful for years to come.

Clean Teak Shower Furniture Regularly

Your teak shower bench and floor mat are going to need cleaning on a regular basis to prevent a buildup of soap scum. It is only natural that some soap residue will collect over time on any object left in the shower, especially small furniture items that you sit or stand on while you rinse soap off your body.

You don't necessarily need any special materials to clean your shower furniture. A little bit of everyday dishwashing liquid and a soft-bristled scrub brush will work. Simply add a few drops of dish soap to warm water and gently scrub the surface of your teak shower items with this solution. Make sure to scrub the underside of the furniture as well.

For superior cleaning power, however, you may wish to try out a dedicated teak cleaner and brightener product.

How to Keep that Brand New Look

Most of the teak shower furniture sold today comes with a coating of teak oil or light stained finish already applied. The color will eventually fade over time, so you may want to reapply a coat of teak oil every few months or so. We normally discourage the use of teak oil on outdoor furniture, but the wood used in shower furniture is usually a lower grade of teak that benefits more from applying oil.

Apply a teak oil after you've cleaned the furniture and allowed it time to dry. Using a sponge or cloth rag, rub a small amount of oil onto the surface of the wood following the direction of the grain.

When the entire surface has been coated, wipe up any excess oil. Then give it about one day to dry before using again. Don't leave any oil-soaked rags crumpled up after use, as this can be a fire hazard. You should soak them in water and then dispose of them.

If you don't mind a faded gray color, then it's not necessary to treat your teak shower furniture with oil. A regular cleaning to remove soap scum should be sufficient.

Tip for Maintaining Teak Shower Benches

Teak wood is resistant to water damage—that is why it is used for boat decking—but that doesn't mean you should leave standing water to pool on the wood's surface.

After use, you should first rinse briefly with plain water to prevent soap buildup and then wipe any standing water off the surface of your teak shower bench and mat to increase the longevity of the wood and the finish.

As you can see, just a small amount of effort on your part will help make your furniture items look their best. When your environment looks good, you will feel good—that's a small secret to having a happy life in this crazy world.
